By 2040, it's likely that half of the cars on our roads will be electric.
But there's one big drawback to today's electric vehicles - many use different charging systems which triggers what's commonly known as 'range anxiety' in users i.e. the fear that if you set off on a long journey without compatible charging stations along your route, you could find yourself stranded.
The race is on to produce batteries with ever-longer ranges. That's not all - a company in Massachusetts called WiTricity, is developing a wireless charging using a process called electromagnetic induction which can safely transfer large amounts of power over much longer distances with an efficiency of up to 93%.
