Here is a test of the ProRes Capabilities with no alterations outside of what iPhone is creating and providing online. This test shows the ability to record Log ProRes and then applying the LUT. The last shot is from the airplane over LA, added it to this test to show the detail clarity this camera provides.
I took the footage into Premiere Pro, downloaded the LUT from Apple's website "You need a apple developer account to access" and then I applied the LUT with no other color correction. What you see is what you get.
Pros:
- Clarity and details are great.
- Great Image Stabilization.
- Extreme highlight handling is not terrible.
- It overall looks quite good.
Cons:
- It was not visible at the time of the recording, but the flickering of the lights is way too much, its not good at all and not cinematic at all. The electronic shutter needs to be controlled with a ND filter.
- Colors seem close but maybe a bit muted.
- If your settings are not tuned in then shadows/dark areas get muddy and grainy.
The video is uploaded to YouTube as a Apple ProRes 422 HQ file. The 1:46 long video is 11GB.
