Microsoft has finally released Windows 10, version 2004, also known as the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, and promptly warned users not to install it. The update adds new security features and fixes for previous cumulative updates to Windows 10. But it also includes a plethora of bugs and issues. More Information: Microsoft has placed warnings on several official pages, including in reference to the mentioned issues on support.microsoft.com as well as on the "Known issues and notifications" page for Windows 10 version 2004. For example, this is a verbatim quote from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/status-windows-10-2004 which remains in place as of June 15, 2020 (they will remove it after they have fixed the related issue): "To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on Windows 10 devices with affected drivers or firmware from being offered Windows 10, version 2004. Affected platforms: Client: Windows 10, version 2004 Next steps: Microsoft and Intel are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release. *Note* We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until this issue has been resolved." Keeping in mind in reference to the final "Note" of warning, the version 2004 upgrade is typically installed via a manual update, as per Microsoft's statement on that same page: "Windows 10, version 2004 is available for users with devices running Windows 10, versions 1903 and 1909 who manually seek to “Check for updates” via Windows Update." Beyond this, users have reported that the issues are also occurring after a fresh install. So the issues are not specifically related to the upgrade process. Many are not affected, but those who are will possibly find their system in a bad state following the upgrade. It is our hopes that these users may heed the warning and hold tight until such time as Microsoft retracts their "note" and users begin reporting that the issues are resolved. The Linux Mint statement is made in jest. We are in no way related to Linux Mint, and while we very much like Linux Mint, it does not actually "solve" any Windows issues. If you don't appreciate the tongue-in-cheek, you need to loosen up. We all need to smile now and again.
