I take a deep dive into the first Digital Vinyl Simulator to hit the market - which ran on linux (and BeOS!) - compare it to later solutions from Serato and Traktor, and explain how timecode works.
Stanton Final Scratch was released in 2002 and was developed for Stanton by N2IT members Mark-Jan Bastian, Bill Squire and Tim Hemel. The DJ market was never the same again.
What's more it initially ran exclusively on linux, making it pretty unique in the history of DJ hardware and software.
