Migration from Venezuela has been going on for decades. According to the United Nations, 2.3 million Venezuelans have left the country since 2014. Thousands of upper-class Venezuelans left in 1999 after the election of Hugo Chavez.
Many others have resisted re-locating until now but are starting to believe the situation has become so dire they might be better off somewhere else.
“Americas Now” anchor Elaine Reyes spoke to Correspondent Stephen Gibbs in Caracas about the causes for the escalating exodus and the region’s response.
