Org Mode is considered to be the Emacs killer application. It is a personal knowledge management and outlining tools for Emacs.
Org documents can be connected using links. There are two types of links in Org Mode: internal and external links. Internal links target headlines in a particular document while external links can not only link between Org documents and files, but also target resources on the web. This can as simple as an HTTP link, but there are different link types as well. Org documents can references Emacs Lisp scripts, Shell commands, Usenet groups and many, many more.
Org Mode documents are textual files. There is no proprietary format. Those files can be easily checked into a Git repository so that you can follow how they evolve over time.
Org Mode headlines are created with the asterisk sign.
