Watch our studio visit with LR Vandy, who will be exhibited at this year’s fair with October Gallery.
London’s Somerset House is hosting the ninth edition of 1-54 from 14 to 17 October. There will be 48 galleries in attendance, between them showcasing the work of more than 150 emerging and established artists.
To mark the occasion, Christie’s has invited the Cameroonian art historian Christine Eyene to curate an exhibition of African artists at its London headquarters in King Street.
‘The show is my way of interpreting some of the new movements in African contemporary art, and how they will be made sense of by the next generation,’ says Christine Eyene, curator of this year’s 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair.
Artists have been selected on the basis of their potential to grow, she says, and with a view to the ways in which their work might create dialogues with other pieces on show.
