I recently reinstalled FreeBSD on my ThinkPad and thought I'd take some time to cover some initial post-installation/setup steps (due to many requests).
The console on a fresh install is usually at very high resolution making the screen almost impossible to use so I'll talk about how to change that. Very easy.
One step I forgot to mention re: X.org: "pkg install xf86-video-intel" -- that's IF you want to use the intel driver as I have.
This obviously applies to people using Intel graphics but the steps for Nvidia are almost the same (actually easier because it has a utility to generate an X.org config).
I don't use AMD hardware sorry so can't advise on that yet.
