According to the External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, a total of 87,026 Indians renounced their citizenship until June of the current year, and more than 17.50 lakh people have given up their Indian citizenship since 2011. The trend of Indian nationals exploring opportunities abroad has been significant over the last two decades. Many have chosen to obtain foreign citizenship for personal convenience reasons. The United States is the top destination for Indian citizens relinquishing their citizenship, with 7,88,284 individuals doing so in 2021. Australia, Canada, and the UK follow as other popular destinations. Additionally, a significant number of Indians have become citizens of Italy, New Zealand, Singapore, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Spain.
