Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car! It’s 1 April 2024 and I have a little April Fools fun in the video introduction today, so check that out and I hope it gives you a little bit of a chuckle! I also provide some actual news about the 6 millionth Tesla made, the Boring Company tunneling operations and my plans for the upcoming Solar Eclipse next week and what this means for my Giga Texas coverage next week. Timestamps: Drone flight overview with discussion & illustration: 0:06 to 2:27 Drone flight footage & infographics: 2:49 to 30:23 A few highlights to look for in the images and video later today include: The end of the 1st quarter push was strong this weekend, with many of the new vehicles we saw on Friday (particularly Model Y's) having departed the factory, so most of the lots are almost empty, however there still remain a few hundred Cybertrucks waiting for movement offsite this week. I have heard from some of my Patreons that Tesla rented a large lot in Austin this weekend and had a gigantic delivery event so it is possible this is where many of the Model Y's and Cybertrucks met their new owners. We should find out tomorrow what the production and delivery numbers for Tesla in the 1st Quarter were! On the S end, we see many workers installing the floor decking on the west side of the new structure, the crane busy on the east side assembling more steel columns and beams around the four large tanks, and crews busy making what appear to be three subterranean tunnels with elevator shafts on the north end and possibly cut out perimeter grade beam sections on the south end. I am not yet sure what these tunnels are for other than possibly cargo delivery that takes place partially below grade with openings on the south end and elevator lifts on the N end. Worth continued monitoring to see what these will eventually be for! The Die shop asphalt paving work has now wrapped around the south and west sides, with a unfinished section near the SW corner that may be completed in concrete. The S receiving ramp (currently two retaining walls) now has a trench down the center of this future ramp area. The crash testing facility S end tank/bath that has had a south barrier wall and a large water tank recently installed now has steel grate material over the top of the bath ... this may indicate it is used occasionally, or perhaps there is another use for this structure we have yet to see. The Boring Company crews were doing some additional testing at the cutting head of the Prufrock 3 this morning, and it appears the TBM has moved further forward and into the soil, perhaps as much as 2 to 3 meters of forward movement based on the beam for the conveyor system that runs along the top of the Prufrock 3. This beam is not almost at the tail end of the TBM and a full segment of concrete tunnel butted up against the thrust ring. At the 4680 battery cell production section west side, we see two large recycling bins filled with either 4680 empty "cans" or dead batteries, but in either case, all of this is headed to recycling. I have seen this previously and this might indicate a change in the can design, failed 4680 batteries, defective parts, or some other reason. We tour the far west material staging yard and discover many interesting pieces of equipment waiting for installation. This includes more TKS modular paint system equipment, some of which are wrapped in white plastic and as large as a semi-truck trailer. We see the new vent ducting that will be installed on the open roof section of the body-in-white portion of the main factory, many items in blue and white wrapping that are most-likely parts to another stamping machine (or machines) and we see more superchargers.
