In this video, I share how I use the competitor report section in Local Falcon to get an idea of the competition for a target keyword. I like to use this report because it helps me see who wins via the SoLV (share of local voice) so I can review their listings and look for gaps in their strategy. In this example, the top competitors rank with a 30% SoLV, which tells me nobody is running away with their local SEO strategy.
Some of the things that I reviewed via the competitor report are below.
1) Photos
2) Review (how recent and if the owner is responding to them)
3) Primary category
4) Services
5) Products
6) Q and A's
7) Updates
8) Descriptions
I also review the website for a few competitors to look for "content gaps." Content gaps include weak content, missing header tags, images not optimized, weak title tags, and much more.
Finally, I like to spend 10% of my time looking at Bing. Bing Places for Business does not pull in Google Reviews, so I like to see if a competitor is getting reviews from Facebook or TripAdvisor.
