In this series of videos I show how I build BLFS 12.0 from the basic text-only LFS 12.0 system to a fully fledged desktop PC with a GUI and productivity software such as LibreOffice and Firefox using just the BLFS book. Although I had initially planned to install just the book-recommended package options, I actually build almost all optional packages to get good coverage of the book meaning that I build almost 1,000 packages from source code by hand. This represents approximately 95% of the book. If you are interested in building BLFS 12.0 you will need a newly completed LFS 12.0 system. You can follow me building such a system here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list... The end result is a desktop system with a variety of Desktop Managers, Window Managers, Desktop Environments, Web Browsers, Office Software such as word processors and spreadsheets, email clients, image editors and a video production suite. As a bonus I additionally install a couple of games at the end. Note: The following packages were installed from BLFS as part of the LFS installation to get UEFI boot functionality and are *not* covered in this series of videos. The numbering of the packages I use in this series includes these six packages. Therefore the packages recorded in later videos in this series starts with number 7: (Wget). Package number / Package Name ============================ 1 efivar-38 2 mandoc-1.14.6 3 Popt-1.19 4 efibootmgr-18 5 FreeType-2.13.1 [Reinstall after harfbuzz] 6 GRUB-2.06 I will cover LFS UEFI booting in future videos.
