This course explores the interaction between verbs and nouns/pronouns in a sentence. We'll explore the key features of a verb's "morphosyntax", including the number and type of noun arguments expected by the verb. - verbs as function words with slots for noun arguments - verb transitivity (can the verb take a direct object?) - verb valency (how many core arguments does the verb have?) - noun roles (thematic roles) - noun cases - morphosyntactic alignment (accusative vs. ergative) The lessons in this series build on two previous courses - "Grammar of Words" and "Grammar of Sentences". If you get stuck, work your way through those first.
