Info
CMV Action are the only charity in the UK offering advice and support to families and anyone affected by Cytomegalovirus (CMV). We raise public and professional awareness of CMV and campaign for better prevention measures and standards of care within our health and social care services, work with medical professionals and support research initiatives.
CMV, or Cytomegalovirus, is a common virus that can infect people of all ages. However, CMV can pose serious problems if caught in pregnancy, in fact it is the most common infection passed from mother to baby. Congenital CMV (when the infection is passed from mother to baby across the placenta) is one of the most common non-genetic cause of inner ear hearing loss and a major cause of childhood disability. CMV can also pose a risk of miscarriage, particularly if the infection occurs in the early stages of pregnancy.
