Social media can be an angry and hostile environment. It’s difficult to escape the divisiveness and polarization of individuals who feel empowered by the feeling of anonymity and lack of consequences provided by the internet. In an effort to maintain a high level of discourse, we are tightening the standards we require on comments made under our videos.
 
We’ve always tried to promote a positive environment in our comments section, and most of the community is kind and respectful. However, if you’ve ever scrolled to the bottom of one of our comment sections, you may have seen the other side of the community that isn’t respectful or kind.
 
That’s why we now require all future comments to be written in good faith.
 
Before further explanation, we’d like to reiterate that we are ALWAYS open to feedback. It’s a core pillar of what we do, and it will continue to be. We are constantly looking for ways to improve, and feel we’ve continually demonstrated that throughout our history. Without you, there is no us.
 
With that in mind, what exactly does a “bad faith” comment mean?
1. The poster fails to provide reasoning for their criticism and demonstrates an unwillingness to engage in a meaningful discussion.
2. The poster presents a criticism as factual when it’s actually a matter of opinion or, even worse, misinformation or false.
3. The poster doesn’t actually want improvement, nor do they have any idea how it could be done. They are simply spreading negativity.
4. The poster is speculating but presents their conjecture as informed or factual.
5. The poster engages in ad hominem attacks against us or other community members.

This change won’t affect most of you, at least not negatively. It is designed to enable us to remove the small number of users who repeatedly spread unproductive negativity in our community, ultimately making the comments section a more pleasant place to interact with fellow tech enthusiasts.
